Gems can be inserted in socketed items to give the item magical properties. Once a gem has been inserted into an item, it will disappear. Even if you remove a socket from an item, you can't get the gem back.
Qualities: There are three grades of gems: Normal, Refined and Super. There are 7 types of gems: Dragon, Phoenix, Kylin, Moon, Rainbow, Violet and Fury.
Multiple Gems: If different types of gems are inserted into a weapon, they both affect your attacks simultaneously. However, only one special effect can be seen at a time (a random effect.)
